Pinewood Derby 2014

The 2014 Pack 27 Pinewood Derby was a success. The boys had a great time this year making their cars. Last year they bought a pre-made kit and we all learned real quick that pre-made kits were not the way to go. This year they bought a block of BSA wood and used their imaginations to create their cars. My brother-in-law, Daniel, has a shop full of wood cutting tools. The boys, with help from their Daddy, drew their designs on the wood. Daniel then cut off the excess wood so the boys would be able to sand and shape their cars to fit their design. They used my Dremel to do so.Mason wanted an arrow this year and Shaun wanted a shark. Shaun probably used my Dremel for a total of 6 hours to get the shape he wanted. They worked on their cars and worked on their cars until they thought they were perfect. I have never seen them so excited about creating something. Unfortunately they did not place in the top 6 out of 26, but they did win an award or two for their designs. Had their been a 7th place, Mason would have placed. Below are a few pictures from the day.
Shaun won Most Creative for his Shark design and Mason won Most Unique and Scout's Choice for his design. We were so excited for them and so very proud of them! They were both disappointed that they didn't place, but winning these awards made their day.
